How To Improve Your Adaptability

Adaptability is a key attribute we need to focus on in our career especially with the chaos that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought on. So, the importance of adaptability and resilience in our careers can not be overemphasized. In this article, we will share some tips on how to improve your adaptability. You will find this particularly useful if you have deep experience in areas that have changed drastically due to the pandemic.

Embrace Learning

No matter how knowledgeable you think you are about a subject matter, you need to embrace learning about it. As soon as you thought you had figured a strategy that worked, things would change. So, it means you then have to start all over.

We are now living in a world where your experience is only valuable if that experience is relevant in the current environment. Therefore, it is important that you stay on top of what is happening in your industry and profession. This may be as simple as setting up a google alert on key search terms related to your industry. If you are currently unemployed, you really need to embrace learning and work on making your skills relevant. Embracing learning is really key to improving your adaptability.

Work On Your Mindset

One other thing you need is to work on your mindset. Without the right mindset, you cannot achieve anything.  So, you need to establish a growth mindset. When you have a growth mindset you look at each new obstacle as a challenge that you embrace with glee. Always look for new ways to approach a challenge rather than relying on your past experiences.

Have An Experimental Mindset

Aside having the right mindset, you also need to have an experimental mindset. This involves having an experiment running that is relatively low risk. That might be starting a consulting business, building an online business, writing a book, starting a podcast, or even taking on some gig works. So, even if your your is secure, now might be the time to start that side hustle or your your skills to try out some things that might interest you. The interesting thing is that this might end being your main work in a few months.

Do Not Get Overwhelmed

It is important to know that making these changes will not happen quickly. So, start by picking one area to focus on and establish a habit of working on it every day. You can consider this as something you will work on for the rest of your life. Learning to improve your adaptability will be beneficial to your career but more importantly to your health and well-being.

The question is “what are you going to do today to improve your adaptability?
